Google PROXX from Google Chrome Labs

Working with Google Chrome Labs, as part of Tokyo Wolf, we helped create PROXX - a pretty addictive Minesweeper-inspired game for the latest Chrome browser.

PROXX — a game of proximity

Tokyo Digital joined forces with Google Chrome Labs to bring you PROXX, a captivating game inspired by the classic Minesweeper and fine-tuned for the latest version of Google Chrome. This project is testament to our prowess in developing web applications that work seamlessly across different platforms.

PROXX ushers players into an interactive journey through outer space. Using proxx, an advanced proximity scanner, players detect and flag black holes, ensuring the safety of their space crews. The game's adaptability to various devices is a hallmark feature. It is crafted with precision to operate flawlessly on any device, from desktops to feature phones. Additionally, PROXX stands out for its multiple input methods support: mouse, keyboard, d-pad, and screen readers, delivering an inclusive gaming experience.

This Minesweeper-inspired game is renowned for its universal compatibility, playable on any device that comes with a web browser, including feature phones. The grand unveiling of PROXX at Google's I/O Conference in 2019 was a landmark achievement.

Drawing from the much-loved Minesweeper, PROXX is a contemporary reinterpretation of the classic game. It was created by the same accomplished team at Google behind Squoosh.app, yet another successful collaboration.

When developing PROXX, we harnessed Preact for UI components, PostCSS for styling, Comlink for web-workers management, and Rollup for bundling. Each technology was meticulously selected to create a dynamic application that is strong on performance, without sacrificing on functionality or compatibility.

Hosted by Netlify, PROXX can be accessed at proxx.app and has been critically acclaimed for its optimized performance. Committed to open-source development and community interaction, Google Chrome Labs has shared the TypeScript source code for this Minesweeper-like game on GitHub at github.com/GoogleChromeLabs/proxx.

The application was constructed using Preact for UI components, PostCSS for styles, Comlink for managing web workers, and Rollup to bundle everything together.

Google Chrome Labs released a very shiny TypeScript Minesweeper on proxx.app. The source code is on GitHub at github.com/GoogleChromeLabs/proxx.
